Album: Isn’t Life Grand
Year: 1988
Genre: Punk
I’ve got very little
information on US Distress other than their tiny discography and
the fact they hail from Wisconsin. Yeah,
not too exciting. What is exciting is
their only full-length Isn’t Life Grand.
US Distress were a strong band rooted firmly in the American hardcore
sound of the mid-80s. Their style ranges
from the mid-tempo greatness of bands such as The Freeze and Naked Raygun to the
more thrashed-out, hectic stylings of Poison Idea. Mark Marifern’s voice is the distinctive
factor that keeps the band sounding unique and unlike the hundreds of other
bands playing taking this approach in 1988. Is it
the greatest punk record I’ve ever heard?
Certainly not. Hell, the bands I
mentioned are better by comparison, but that in no way means this record isn’t
worth your time to seek out for some repeated listens.
Listen to "Jess" here.
