Album:
Bleach Birth
Year: 2016
Genre: Punk
This is
a tough one. The creative latitude which Bleach Birth employs is impressive,
but god if it isn’t a fucking nightmare trying to describe with words. The music isn’t overly complicated or so
weird that it obliterates the senses, but if there is a scrap of original punk
rock left on this earth, Bleach Birth have discovered it.
This
self-titled, digital only release strays into many different musical camps and
never stakes a claim for too long in one.
Overall, the depressing feel of deathrock is the driving element but you
will also hear anarcho-goth punk, noise rock, post-rock and some plain old
aggressive evil shit makes up the 13 songs on this recording. The dynamics in every song are fantastic and
leave your ears trying to predict where the record is going next. At one point you think you are hearing the
bass driven style of a Bauhaus song and the next thing you know you’re
listening to what Venom would’ve sounded like as a vicious (and talented) punk
rock band. Many bands have gone down the uneven road of incorporating various
styles into a full album, yet, most fail miserably because the end product
isn’t a cohesive project. The
individuality displayed on this record is impressive. It is proof positive that substance over
style is the very definition of punk.
This album is only on Bandcamp, so go throw some money at Bleach Birth
for this awesome release!
