SKINNY PUPPY - "Too Dark Park"

Artist:  Skinny Puppy
Song:  Convulsion
Album:  Too Dark Park
Year:  1990
Genre:  Industrial

Skinny Puppy is the most frightening band on earth.  No contest.  More evil than black metal, scarier than grindcore and death metal could ever wish to be, and they make all their contemporaries in the industrial / goth world look like a church picnic on a sunny Sunday afternoon.  The music Skinny Puppy constructs compliments their 'trapped in a horror movie-esque' live show.  Non believer?  This should help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbH2jSFYsc4 .   So on to my absolute favorite Puppy record, Too Dark Park.  I believe this is where Messrs. Key, Ogre, Goetell and honorary 4th member Ogilvie hit their stride.  By the late 80s these electronic pioneers began to abandon the decently straight forward industrial beats and song structures of their earlier releases for a more nonlinear and frenzied approach.  This musical shift was hinted at on their schizophrenic VIVIsectIV record.  Too Dark Park saw the band continue to manufacture more complex compositions and expand its soundscape by adding a wider array of layers, samples, effects and a grim dose of creepiness to their repertoire.  Listening to Too Dark Park through headphones in a light deprived room is like having my own personal haunted house.  Something I've always wanted since I was a kid!  Ogre’s vocal performance is just inhuman at times.  Skinny Puppy are true innovators.  The creativity of this band is off the charts and the influence they’ve had on the electro / industrial music scene is undeniable.
