Song: Shotgun Sally
Album: Kicked And Klawed
Year: 1989
Genre: Glam Metal / Heavy Rock
Sometimes
you just need to rock out with some raw, no frills, amps-turned-to-10
music. You know, the type of songs that make you
speed down the highway and it isn't until you see the flashing lights behind
you do you realize how fast you were going.
Cats In Boots' 1989 release Kicked And Klawed is just such a
record. With the success of the
now legendary Appetite For Destruction by Guns 'N Roses,
record companies were scooping up anything they could find to have their own
G'N'R on their roster. Most of the bands
were terrible and we're just leftover LA glam bands that the labels forced to have a "street level" sensibility. Cats
In Boots wore their glam/sleeze/street influence proudly on their chest, but, for a change, the
music stood above the presentation. The
album rips front-to-back with reckless abandon and have a very live feel to it,
rarely slowing down. The band wasn't
afraid to get heavy or speedy when they needed to, but never truly crossed over
into true "metal" territory. Simply
put, this record is full of well-performed, aggressive heavy rock. Unfortunately the lifeline of the band was cut
short by a certain 90s sound that all but killed every band in the genre. Change is always good, but it's a shame when a band like this probably had a lot of great songs left in them.
