Artist: Die Kreuzen
Song: Gone Away
Album: Gone Away
Year: 1989
Genre: Hardcore Punk
(early) / Alternative (later)
In 2 years, Die Kreuzen lit the world on fire with some of the most
vicious hardcore punk being played in the early 80s with the Cows And Beer 7" and their self-titled LP. For me, they were the best band on Touch
& Go. Pretty high praise when you're
label mates with the likes of Negative Approach, The Meatmen, The Fix, Jesus
Lizard, and the list of kings goes on. They
were fierce and fearless with their approach to punk rock. The release of the October Files record (1986) saw them incorporate a more thought out and musical approach with their early aggression. Then, Die Kreuzen committed the worst crime in punk
rock; they started playing slower. With
this new direction, they developed a truly diverse sound that was just a few steps ahead
of what was to become some of the most popular music in the 90s. Unfortunately, it was too late and they had
disbanded after their 1991 release Cement. Their song Gone Away shows the
melodic and experimental side of a phenomenal band.
