Song: I Won't Write You A Letter
Album: Home Again
Year: 1989
Genre: Pop Punk
I specifically remember picking up the Home Again record on
a whim. I had no clue who the Doughboys
were but I do remember reading the back cover and seeing that Stephen Egerton
and Bill Stevenson were involved in recording the record. That must have been enough for me. Ever since then I could easily place Home
Again in my top five all time favorite pop punk records. Many bands in this genre don't stray far from
the blueprint laid out by the Descendents, and this one is no different. But, there is such a heartfelt urgency to the
songwriting and performance on this record that it makes it stand above the
mounds of Descendents clones that
followed. You can hear the guys sweating while recording this! Although I enjoy every subsequent release, The Doughboys never captured the energy of Home Again, or their debut Whatever; another album I highly recommend.
