THE BLOOD - "False Gestures For A Devious Public"

Artist:  The Blood
Album: False Gestures For A Devious Public
Year:  1994 (reissue)
Genre:  Punk

This time of year gets ultra hectic in my big boy job, so I don't have copious amounts of time to write.  With that in mind, I didn't want to ignore the main purpose of this blog which is exposing the music I love.   Nothing says I can't keep things short and sweet, right?  So I picked a band and album that I would have difficulty going into great lengths anyways.  The Blood are an 80s band I cannot even pretend to know a whole lot about.  I first heard them on the Oi! Oi! That's Yer Lot compilation.  Their track, "Such Fun," was a stand out to me.  I quickly grabbed up everything I could by the band, which was no easy task, and they became an instant favorite.  Their involvement with the Captain Oi!, Link and No Future Records labels always gave the impression The Blood were an Oi! band.  The truth is they were more rooted in 80s English hardcore, and only the label associations and the mega-gravely vocalizations bore any resemblance to the working class side of punk.  The Blood were melodic, frenzied, and, dare I say, fun!  The Blood are one of many overlooked gems from an incredible era.  If anything resembling street-level punk and hardcore is your thing, you would do well to check out this band.

Check out "Such Fun" here.
