Artist: The Black Hand
Album: Pull Your Strings
Year: 2000
Genre: Crust Punk / Hardcore
The Black Hand were a short-lived, 90s band out of Montreal, Canada and only managed to release an EP and one full length
before calling it quits. I can’t say I
have a whole lot of information pertaining to them, but the fact that they were
comprised of members from the stunning, chaotic hardcore unit Ire was good
enough for me to give it a listen oh so long ago. This is a blistering little bastard of an
EP. The Black Hand is one part raw crust
punk and one part malevolent 90s hardcore, venomously merged into a single,
unholy ball of fury. The 4-songs, impassioned,
yet, bellicose, jump off the vinyl. Not
a calm moment is to found on this record with the exception of the silence
between tracks. Although their following
full-length was a strong outing, The Black Hand were incapable of recreating
the intensity of this release. Pulling
Your Strings is highly recommended to fans seeking the sonic equivalent
of an atom bomb. The lone downfall of
this release is that you only get 13 minutes of neck snapping music.
